How did you get started in your field of work?
We started Sheehan Homestead after reevaluating our careers and life goals. Ann-Marie, a dedicated educator, and Michael, with a background in corporate sales and an Executive MBA, both felt the call to create something more meaningful and personally fulfilling. Inspired by Mike’s EMBA capstone project on “Homestead Retreats,” which aimed to offer a respite from professional burnout, we decided to establish our own small-acre farm. This allowed us to combine our passions—education, animal care, and sustainable living—into a venture that not only serves our community but also aligns with our values and desires for a healthier lifestyle. We believe this is only the beginning as we have a long-term vision that is both broad and deep.
What differentiates you from the competition?
The honest answer is there is no direct competition — because no one else is doing what we do. Today, the ‘solution’ most families rely on is a sticky note, a phone call, or a pill reminder app. Those are reminders. They tell someone to take their medication. They have no way of knowing whether they actually did. Just Presence is the first platform that monitors the actual physical interaction with the medication container — not a reminder, but confirmation. A caregiver doesn’t get an alert saying ‘it’s time.’ They get confirmation that it happened — or an alert that it didn’t. That distinction is everything. For the first time, families and home care agencies have real evidence, not just hope, that a dose was taken.
How has your business changed in the past 12 months?
So much has changed. Being a mom entrepreneur and finding ways to do both, like the Mom & Me offering I came up with.
Describe a Failure in your Career
Some of my first events had zero attendees. It isn’t that easy to be a successful programmer- even with goats.
What about your company makes you the most proud?
The animals promote happiness, wellness, and learning.
How do you motivate people to give their best?
You get a golden goat statue if you do a good job.
